Ochils Mountain Rescue Team

The Mountain Rescue Team helping an injured climber

We built an informative digital platform for the Ochils Mountain Rescue Team, designed to save lives and improve safety in the Scottish hills.

When the Ochils Mountain Rescue Team approached us, they needed a website that could serve multiple critical functions: providing quick access to emergency assistance, delivering real-time weather information, and educating the public about mountain safety.

The result is a fast, user-focused website that features emergency contact protocols, a dynamic weather widget displaying the current conditions across the Ochil Hills, and comprehensive safety resources. It's designed to be both a lifeline in emergencies and a valuable resource for anyone planning a day on the hills.

colours

The color palette uses grounded black and grey tones to establish a professional, reliable foundation - essential for emergency services. Bright secondary colors serve dual purposes: drawing attention to critical information and functioning as a traffic light system for weather conditions, able to get the message of safe, moderate, or dangerous conditions across effectively.

real-timeweather

The dynamic weather widget provides essential conditions data for the Ochil Hills, frequently updating to ensure hikers and rescue teams have the most current information available. This real-time data is crucial for both emergency response planning and helping outdoor enthusiasts make informed decisions about their hiking activities.

  • Displays an animated icon to quickly communicate the current conditions, from 20 possible conditions
  • Provides the current temperature and wind speed so climbers can make more informed decisions
  • Updates automatically every 60 seconds while the page is active, and when switching back to the page from another window or tab
  • Uses the traffic light colour system to easily communicate safety levels

eye-catchingstats

The website prominently displays key statistics that highlight the rescue team's vital work in the community. These numbers tell the story of their dedication and impact on mountain safety.

  • Shows the total number of callouts and rescues the team performed each year
  • Animates each statistic separately for more emphasis on each one
  • Begins the animations only when the section is within view to maximise the impact
